The MUD Defender Dashboard Top Rail is a faithful recreation of the original “Pad-Facia Crash Assembly” fitted to Land Rover Defender models from 1983* to 2006.
This part is equivalent to Land Rover part number MXC6084PMA of the ‘wide’-windscreen vent version of the Top Rail fitted from VIN (V)HA455946 onwards.
Available in ABS plastic or a professionally finished vinyl trim.
The padded Defender Dashboard Top Rail panel has been an obsolete part for a number of years and clean undamaged second-hand dashboard top rails are almost impossible to find. The MUD Defender Dashboard Top Rail allows you to tidy up one of most butchered areas of the Defender dashboard and is perfect for that restoration project.
We offer the MUD Defender Top Rail as a ready-to-install panel that’s been professionally trimmed by one of the UKs largest Tier-1 automotive trim suppliers for an OE level of finish.

Alternatively, we offer the MUD Defender Dashboard Top Rail in a basic/raw plastic finish if you’re looking to personalise your dashboard with your own choice of custom covering or you’re looking to modify the dashboard by installing tweeter openings etc. You may even simply wish to install the panel straight out of the box for a quick and easy fix to replace a tatty dashboard top rail.
The MUD Defender Dashboard Top Rail has been designed and manufactured in the UK in a rigid ABS black plastic.
For the pre-trimmed version of the MUD Defender Dashboard Top Rail we carefully selected a textured black vinyl that matches the original Defender dashboard finish as closely as possible. The vinyl provides a soft touch tactile finish while the use of two-pack automotive grade adhesives ensures durability in all weathers.
The M5 Rivnuts in the ends of the panel are as per the original dashboard design and provide the upper fixing point for the passenger-side grab-handle.
Note: We do include 3x longer screws for along the top of the rail with the vinyl version in order to accommodate the extra thickness compared to the original top rail.
By removing the central recess for the now largely redundant ash-tray we’ve cleaned up and modernised the lines of the dashboard.
Will the dash top rail fit my Defender?
*Earlier 90 & 110 models had narrower windscreen screen vents than later Defenders and therefore the vent openings in the dashboard top rail of these early models (part #MWC9327PMA fitted up to(V)HA455945) is narrower. Swapping out the narrow screen vents on the early cars for the later and more common wide screen vents is a very quick & easy upgrade and will enable you to fit the MUD Dashboard Top Rail into any earlier model Defender.
Parts required to upgrade from narrow to wide screen demister vents are 2 x screen vent trim BTR912. 1x Demister Vent (RH) BTR1600 & 1x Demister (LH) BTR1599.
